Question:
Has anyone eaten frozen prepared foods such as Lein Cusine or WeightWatchers dinners?

I read someone's profile on here and they said they had eaten frozen dinners such as Weight Watchers or Lean Cusines. I wouldn't think this would be appropriate after surgery. To many carbs I would think , since most have either pasta , rice etc in them. Has anyone else tried these?? I am almost 3 months post-op and getting tired of "plain food" and was just wondering. Anybody have any good recipes for chicken or any meal ideas???    — janicediana (posted on February 24, 2002)

I do eat frozen meals but only eat the meat from them. I also buy pre-cooked frozen chicken breasts. Both the breasts and meats from the dinners are perfect protions. I have some great recipes if you want some email me at [email protected]

Check out the message board. Victoria Bowen posts some great recipes on there. It seems like she posts a new one every day. She also has a link there to more of her recipes.

I eat Smart Ones for lunch all the time. Thing is, I can't eat the whole thing. I stay away from the ones that are pastas and such. I stick with the chicken ones and usually eat all the chicken first and if there is any room left I will have a little bit of rice or whatever side there is. I guess I like them cause I can stick them in the freezer at work and I also get them on sale at the market making it $2.50 for lunch and they are usually really tasty. That's a third of what I used to spend on lunch when I went for fast food pre-op. Also, since there are many different "chicken" plates, there is always a variety and I don't get "bored." Good luck!

I've had three Lean Cuisines since my surgery. Too many carbs. I've dumped...gotten very sweaty and felt awful afterward.

I like to go to www.allrecipes.com for my recipes. They are all rated by users, they give the nutritional value for a serving, and you can do searches by course of meal and meat product. I have used a lot of the crock pot recipes as they are soooo easy and moist, goes down easy. It has become one of my fav. sites, my family likes it too, although I don't cook as often as I did as a pre-op. My husband even goes there to pick out recipes that he wants to try. He just found a chili recipe yesterday that had 250 ratings. It doesn't look like one of the easier ones as it has a lot of ingredients, but I am going to try it anyway because of the great reviews. Hope you find some good ideas!

I have purchased the Lean Cuisine and Weight Watcher's frozen dinners since my surgery almost 4 mos. ago. The thing is tho, I just pick at them. The gravy on them is too much for me and like you said the pasta and rice I cannot eat. So I finally quit buying them for now. Too much money to spend to end up throwing 3/4 of them away or feeding them to the dogs. The little containers they come in make great dishes for my cats and that's about the only plus I've found to buying them.

First, while cutting out carbs seems to be the norm here, not everyone does that. Secondly, you have to consider the type of surgery, for example, D/s patients can eat a lot more food, and apparently food groups, than most rnys. That being said, box meals... yuck lol. It's just as fast to get frozen turkey breast patties, non breaded, or boca burgers, or regular burgers, or those frozen fish patties like the lemon peppper ones and dump them on my foreman grill. By the time I have my salad assembled it's time to eat. I highly recommend this grill, or anything similar. Good luck

At 7 months out I have eaten some frozen dinners. A lean cuisine is a FULL meal. Pre op I didnt like them they were but a snack. Most are too high in carbs, but tasty.

I couldn't eat these until about 9 months post-op, but now I live on them. Yes, they're a little high in carbs for people who are new post-ops, but for people further post-op, they're fine if you can tolerate them. Most are good sources of protein, too. (up to 21 g. for 300 calories)

I eat them several times a week. I'm read the labels and get the highest protein meals I can find. I can't eat the whole serving, so I pick out the meat, then the veggies and then if I'm not full I eat some of the "filler". At most this might amount to 4-5 bites of the carb. part of the meal.

I take one of these to work every day. I can eat about 1/5 of the meal. Keep in mind that just because the meals have pasta or rice, doesn't mean you have to eat them. I get spaghetti & meatballs or swedish meatballs, chicken teriyaki... etc... and I eat primarily the meat. It works for me. I'm 1 1/2 mos and down 41 lbs (started at 261).

I eat the Lean Cuisine dinners. It is really easy for me to just throw one in the microwave when busy. This has taken the place of Burger King 4X/week, so I consider it a success. The one I had tonight had Salisbury Steak and macaroni and cheese. 260 cals. 6 gr. fat. 25 gr. protein. I do not concern myself with carbs much.

AS the same as Karen posted, I have eaten the same. I start off eating it as my lunch and later finish it as my dinner. Its loaded with protein and tastes sooooooooooooo good too!!!
