Question:
can't stand the taste of children's chewable vitamins. Is there anything

I can take that won't make me gag? Or does anyone take a vitamin tablet that they swallow? I am taking one a day complete childrens chewable and I can't stand the smell let alone the taste.    — Rose A. (posted on June 1, 2000)

I have never used chewables. I just use regular pills. My husband prefers his calcium in liquid, but I swallow regular pills. We are 5 & 6 yrs post-op.

Hello! There are liquid vitamins that you can take too. When I first came home I was giving an prescription for a liquid multivitamin. You can go to Rite Aid, Duane Reade or your local Pharmacy and they have different variety's or ask your Doctor for a prescription.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and have been taking vitamin pills since the day I left the hospital with no problems. I chose One A Day Women's Formula and my surgeon said that was perfect.

Hi... I also took chewables, post-op and HATED them. I complained to my surgeon and he said I could take prenatal vitamins. The best thing about this over regular over the counter vitamins is that insurance will cover 3 month's supply for the price of my itty bitty co-pay... so it's cheaper, too!

I also had that problem - at my first post-op appointment I complained to the doctor - and he suggested One-A-Day - the small red pill one - it fulfills all of his vitamin requirments. It is small and easy to swallow - no nasty taste. What an improvement!

another option to consider would be to buy "bilingual" vitamins from GNC. They are small vitamins that digest easily, like a gel-pill.

My daughter and I both had a lap RNY this year. Our surgeon approved a change to "solid" vitamins of our choice at our 3 wk post-op check. She is happy with One- A-Day vitamins and I have been taking Centrum (a much larger tablet) since March. We take them at bedtime for maximum absorption and have had absolutely no problems. We were really happy to switch from chewables...we couldn't stand the taste either! Good luck.

Hi rose, I also do not the smell of any vitamins. I found that Childrens "Bugs Bunny sugar free with Iron" was the best tasting ones around. I actually could handle 3 per day! Hope this helps. Cheri
