Question:
Has anyone else experienced a tearing in the tissues postop lipo?

I had lipo on my inner and outer legs about a week and a half ago. About 5 days postop, I was stretching my legs while turning over in bed. I felt a sudden tearing/burning sensation in my left thigh. It hurt, but the pain went away after a couple of minutes. The next day, I noticed a bulge (size of an egg) in the area when I was taking a shower. It is still extremely tender, and feels like a severely pulled muscle, and is still bulging. My PS said I probably did pull something, and there is a fluid buildup in that area. Has anyone else had this postop lipo? Did it eventually go down? I've had this now for 5 days, and it's not going down. He said he may have to aspirate it later. Anyone?    — raye (posted on August 8, 2004)

I ended up with an egg sized area at the top of the left leg in the groin area. The funny part is he didn't even do a ton of lipo in that area. The majority was done down lower. He drained the fluid out and by the next day it was about 75% back. However, about a week later it was totally gone. So draining it once ended up solving the problem. I also have a very hard marble on the incision line under my right breast. It also is a little fluid filled sac. He drained it once but it came right back and isn't going away this time. I'm going to encourage him to remove it when he does the skin removal on my legs in November. It is large enough that it is painful at times and causes havoc with an underwire bra. He said he's done tons of breast surgery and never seen this happen before. And I didn't even have breast surgery just had the upper panni removed but he anchored everything to the ribs right under my breasts. Go figure. If it's something strange then usually my body comes up with it. LOL

Hi Raye, When I had my liposuction I did develop some fluid under the skin on my knees. My surgeon had to aspirate the fluid out with a needle, but it was no problem. Take care. E-mail me if you have any more questions.
