Question:
I have looked everywhere and can't find a recipe

for turkey meatloaf that is ok to have after WLS post-op. Does anyone know of one that we are able to have? I would appreciate any suggestions.    — Lynne Z. (posted on October 2, 2003)

Jen has made turkey stuffed peppers. With my gerd gone they are really yummy. Just sub ground turkey for the beef and add your favorite seasonings

Go to foodtv.com and type in turkey meatloaf or any meatloaf recipe is fine just substitute ground turkey. I don;t think there is a specific meatloaf recipe for after WLS.

My mother used to use ground chicken either in place of or added to ground beef for her meatloaf. The ground chicken and ground turkey definitely need more seasoning than beef. Add some regular oatmeal (rough cut or multigrain is even better for added fiber and protein) to make up for the fact that the ground turkey and chicken is a little softer than beef when molding. You can use the egg substitute also to help bind. When you have it all seasoned just fry a tiny bit in a pan (non stick you don't need oil) and check for seasonings, they really do need more salt and pepper and whatever you like with your oatmeal. If you are one of those put ketchup on top before you bake people (not me, I dipped it in ketchup after, some people just don't like ketchup) try the atkins ketchup that doesn't have the added sugar. MMMMMM... sounds yummy!

hiya! i love the site: www.allrecipes.com you can enter "turkey" in their search box and find lots of recipes. you can also enter "meatloaf" and just replace ground turkey for ground beef... as a gastric bypass patient you'll want to make low fat substitutions wherever possible... {{hugs}} kate

Turkey meatloaf sounds really good! I'd just try your favorite meatloaf recipe and substitute ground turkey for the ground beef. In the diabetic section of most larger grocery stores you can buy Estee brand sugar-free ketchup if you are worried about the sugar in the ketchup. Also, use regular tomatoe sauce (it shouldn't have added sugar, but even if it's a little, you won't be eating that much meatloaf and one sitting). For other recipes (like sweets), I bake mostly with fructose or turbinado sugar. I have a recipe book if you are interested. You can click on my profile page or visit www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny At the website, you'll find an index, sample recipes and ordering information. Are you looking for any specific recipe?

I know this doesnt really answer your question, but my surgeon told me I could have lean ground beef post op. I am two months out, and I love meatloaf made with just lean ground beef (which makes in the best anyways) good luck to you either way!
