Question:
I need all the help I can get on filing an appeal.

I have Highmark BC/BS of Pitsburg PA. They feel that removing this extra 10lbs of skin would not improve or restore my body functions therefore it would be considered cosmetic. They don't live with the lower back pain or trying to sleep with this big blob beside me. I have gone from 287/177 I am in a size 14 because of the extra skin. I also filed to have a breast lift which was also denied, but I can live with that. You can email me at [email protected] Thanks AMOS family Kim Cole    — Kim C. (posted on June 28, 2003)

Have you had the back pain documented? By that I mean going to your PCP about it and having him/her put it in your chart that the back pain is being caused by the excess belly skin. Also, if you have had any skin rashes or infections make sure those get documented. What I know about getting the skin removed is that it usually depends on having some serious medical condition(s) that will be greatly improved by the skin/fat removal. Without that, most insurance companies will consider it cosmetic and not cover it.
