Question:
Post Ops- How Long Before You Were Eating Salads?

I'm a little over three months post op and have always loved salads. I would like to know how far you were before eating salad and what are your favorite salads? Thanks in advance!    — meltedbuttr (posted on June 7, 2003)

My doc said no veggies until I lost 80% of my weight but i have been having a salad every day for about a month. I am five months post-op and haven't had any trouble except when I eat it too fast.

Still pre-op here, but I got my surgeon's diet already, he has you on 4 diet stages, and the raw fruits and veggies don't come until step 4 which is about two months post-op. Then you can try any of them.

I am 6.5 weeks out and have had salads a few times. They went down very well! It was mostly lettuce and tomato, with a protein source (chicken, chilli, etc). Enjoy!

I was at about 7 weeks when I had my first small salad. I started eating them regularly shortly thereafter. I love salad and have to be careful when I have a dinner salad and then no room for dinner!!!

I tried my first salad at about 3 months post op with no problems. My faves are chicken caesar (good source of protein) and tossed garden salad with cheese or meat (sorta like a chef's salad). The only thing I cannot eat in a salad is celery, its too stringy and I just can't seem to chew it up enough. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov.4/02 (-125)

I started eating salads at 5 weeks. Lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, egg, shrimp and cheese. Just chew well. I can eat quite a bit more salad than other foods. Great for the digestive system too, especially when you are taking iron and drinking protein shakes.

I tried Salad at 6 weeks post op and it made me throw up. I am afraid to try it again.

I started eating salad at 6 weeks post op and love it. I had part of a Wendy's Southwest Chicken Caesar Salad for lunch today and it was wonderful.

I was a little afraid to try them, but I did at 4 months, and wished I would have tried earlier, they are wonderful. My NEW favorites are the ones at McDonalds (all but the Cobb Salad) They must be the favorites of many others too, because (twice now) they have been out of them! They make about 3 meals for me.

5 weeks post-op and the best thing I ever tasted! I started out using soft veggies, like tomato, mushroom, cheese, beans, lettuce, tuna and at about 8 weeks graduated to adding carrots, cucumbers, green peppers and grilled meats. Regular salad dressings too. YUM! Still a favorite lunch.
