Question:
Is drainage 5 weeks post op normal??

My incision has come open and I am starting to have drainage on the top part of my incision. The opening is about the size of a pencil point, the drainage is healthy looking, just really aggrevated that it is doing this. I just want it to heal.Is this normal?? I am not running a temp or anything. Just looks gross.    — Esther W. (posted on August 31, 2002)

Mine did that also it lasted for awhile it was more troublesome than anything, having to change gause and clean it with peroxide, several times a day. My pin hole closed and opened several times the first few months, it will close and stay closed when it is finished draining.

I don't think that sounds normal, and I think you should contact your doctor and just have it checked out to be on the safe side. I am in almost 6 weeks out from open RNY and I have no drainage at all. I am sure you are fine if it isn't hurting or green in color or something...but I would still get it checked out!

It is totally normal. I am 2 wks post op and going thru the same thing. Call your dtr to put your self at ease, but, this happens to like 25% of the people. My incision is open about an inch from the bottom and leaks like a faucet. As long as it isn't green, smelly or you have a fever, you are fine...It is just VERY annoying.
