Question:
Symptoms of Kidney and Bladder Stones What do I do?

Good Morning All: I'm coming to you with a problem, because I'm sure one of you will have gone through this. I'm now dealing with a bladder and kidney infection that has gone on 4 weeks, and I've taken more Cipro (what they use for anthrax) than a New Jersey postal worker. My Urologist has found blood and mucus in my urine, and now tells me it's one of three things, bladder stone, kidney stone, or cancer. I don't feel it's cancer, but somehow perhaps as my Urologist has suggested is to do with surgery. He thinks it is something to do with the malabsorbtion. Anyone out there had bladder or Kidney stones after surgery? If so what did you do?? Thanks, Shannon    — shannon W. (posted on March 21, 2002)

Yes, we are more prone to OXALATE kidney stones than the average public. Here are a few risk factors you can eliminate: not enough water; brown liquids, such as coffee, tea or cola (caf or decaf, same thing), TUMS or other carbonate forms of calcium, and some green leafy veggies, such as spinach. And add more water, in case I didn't mention it loudly enough. If your stones are uric acid, that's a different set of rules. But WATER is always appropriate.
