Question:
Anyone maintaining goal weight and NOT counting calories?

I was curious if anyone is maintaining their goal weight and is NOT having to watch the amount of fat and calories they consume. Any and all experiences are welcome. Thanks!    — Christine L. (posted on October 16, 2002)

I never count fat or calories. I never have. I did join weight watchers post op to learn what normal eating looked like. I have found (for myself) a sensible approch works best. I eat a hardy breakfast (it's my favorite meal) an egg , ham bacon or sausage and a slice of cheese on a piece of buttered toast is how I start the day.Notice what I am saying here 1 egg ,1 slice of bread , one slice of cheese one sausage or 2 bacon or small piece of ham. Some mornings I eat it all some mornings I eat 3/4 . I have a morning snack of cottage cheese , or yogurt (sm container) . Lunch is a half sandwich or jr cheeseburger and 4or 5 frys. Pretzles or popcorn later in the day. Then what ever dinner I scrounge up. I like to have a cookie or donught for desert. I let my pouch do it's job an restrict my amounts. And just because I could eat more I don't. I don't have to . Food does not rule my life anymore. I am lactose intolerant so I only use real cream in my coffee. I make sure I get my liquids in and I NEVER drink my calories,i.e., no sugar laden beverages , I very rarely drink alchol and diet pop is maybe a can or 2 per week. I'm a water drinker. My weight has been the same for a year now, and I wear a size 6to8 depending. Now you aked about watching the amount of fat or calories , not the amount of food consumed. And the amount of food is what I am careful with. I pay attention to what my pouch tells me , so I know when I am full. Also I never eat and drink at the same time. I hope this is helpful to you.

I'm 8 yrs post-op, do not count calories or fats. I am more distal than most, but sugar g can put me back where I started. I count sugar g and do not touch milk AT ALL. I do other dairy, just not milk or ice cream. I drink several protein shakes per day (no milk), and that helps control cravings, and portions. I do 4 reasonable meals per day, 1 of which is often just a carrot or an apple-very light. I count suguar g OUT, protein g (form supplements) in. Still under 115# (5'1").

I don't count calories either. I just eat until I'm full and stop. I don't deprive myself of ANYTHING, I just control the quantities. I'm almost 1 year post-op and I've found that I'm still losing even though I don't want or need to!! I'm down to a size 4 and would just like to maintain that.
