Question:
hi I will be 6 moths post op on the 23, I am thrilled with what I have lost so far

but i am getting concerned with how much I can eat now..itss like i can eat 3 maybe 4 ozs of food at once is this normal? Also any suggestions on how to break this plateau that I have been on, I have only lost like 10lbs in the last month and a half...my surgeon doesnt have an aftercare program so I am not really sure what to do..any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.    — tylerswife (posted on June 18, 2002)

hi there i can eat about that as well but it depends on what food it is i noticed im not 6 mo out yet and im not a doctor but ive heard several times to break a plateu you should drink more water, increase exercise and ive heard it helps if you eat something totally out of the ordinary that you dont normally eat like maybe a potato or something i read that bit of advice from a cook book a lady who had had wls put together and she said it worked like a charm she didnt do this alot but just enough to freak her system a bit to get it jump started again i also noticed this seems to keep my plateus under control so hope this helps you out hon good luck:) and hang in there

Hi Rebecca! If you had your surgery on Jan 23, you will actually only be 5 months out on June 23! From your profile, it sounds like you're doing great. Like the previous poster said, 3 or 4 ozs of food is not too much. Just be sure you're getting all of your water/liquids (the more the better) and that you're getting the protein. It may be worth seeing a dietitian who works with WLS patients, just to make sure you're on track. I pay out of pocket to see one every month (it's only $30... well worth it.) Good luck to you! Rebecca, losing 10 pounds in a month and a half is not a plateau. A plateau is when the scale doesn't move for a month and a half, or you gain and lose the same pound over that period. I'd be happy with 10 pounds in 6 weeks, though if you want to increase the loss, increase the protein/water and exercise. And 3 or 4 ounces of food is not much, especially if it is mushy food. Many of us each much more than that at less than 6 months post-op.
