Question:
Anyone have Fed BC/BS get approved for a tummy tuck?

If so, what procedures did you have to go through? Did you have to submit pics? Do they precertify? I'm 2 years post-op. Thank you so much!    — jengrz (posted on December 1, 2004)

I have BC/BS National PPO and have tried everything to get my tummy tuck approved. I am working on the legal process for over turning the direct exclusion based on the "mental problems" the loose skin has caused me. A self image disturbance. My surgery date was May 30,2002. I have lost 165 pounds and have maintained my weight about 18 months now. I have tried everything to get this approved by my insurance but we'll see how it turns out.

I am researching this issue also. I called BC/BS Q/A for fed ees. They are still covering WLS for 2005 for fed ees and they said that reconstructive surgery for WLS will be approved for medical neccessity. It sounded like a gray area. I am trying to decide whether to stay with Kaiser or switch to BC/BS.
