Question:
I am eight months 14 days post op and I have just learned I am pregnant

I am estatic. i could not be happier. We have been trying for 8 years, 2 IVF treatments, 1 failed an the other resulted in stillbirth due to preeclampsia. I also have pcos. This pregnancy is a blessing. I am however concerned if I should eat more or less. how much will I gain or should gain and will I continue to lose after the pregnancy. i have already lost 120 lbs. Does anyone have any experience with this and this soon after surgery. Please respond. Thanks Lisa    — Lisa G. (posted on February 23, 2004)

Lisa, Definately get a dietician consult as soon as possible. I know you will need to increase your caloric intake and make sure you absorb enough nutrients for you and your miracle baby. I am very excited for you and pray you have a healthy pregnancy. I saw that this months issue of the wls magazine is about pregnancy after surgery - you may want to get a copy to see what sort of resources are available. Good luck and God bless! Liz

The one thing you should do is tell your ob Dr about the surgery and also tell your bypass Dr. They both will be able to help you with this. Good luck and please keep us updated on your new baby.

you should tell your ob/gyn and see what he/she says. you may want to consider going to a perinatologist. this is a doctor that specialized in high risk pregnancys and i am sure you qualify for that.

Lisa, First of all i'd like to say Congratulations. This baby really is a blessing. I am almost 3 years post-op and I am 8 months pregnant, so I have experience with pregnancy after this procedure. I have so much information for you. Please e-mail me, if you are interested, at [email protected] Look forward to hearing from you, Kelly

I can not beleive we are in the same situation. I'm also 8 months post op, but just found out last week that I'm 6 months pregnant. In 16 yrs. my husband and I have never been pregnant. We are just estatic. It's a baby girl. Good luck to you and your baby. Keep us in your prayers and please do the same for us.
