Question:
How Can I get my bmi under 55 with water retention

The surgeon I realy want to use want us to get our bmi under 55 for risk reasons. My problem is because of depo my period have been on for weeks nonstop and my ob/gyn said it might be on for many more weeks. I need to lose some weight before I can even get started but how can I work around this bloat. Thank god its not alot but still enough to work on.    — shae7755 (posted on August 13, 2003)

The depo situation worries me, but I don't know enough about it to say any more than that. For water retention, oddly enough the thing that really helps is to drink lots of water! It flushes the excess water from your cells. Also cutting back on salt, not too much since it's so hot where you are. Sugar and artificial sugar also cause us to retain water, and there is salt (sodium in various forms) hidden in most of the foods that contain them. If you can eat a healthy diet of protein, fruits, vegies, whole grains, and plenty of water, and avoid things like sodas, candy, Crystal Lite, etc, that will help you in every way--the water, the high BP, and the weight. Sorry you're having such a hard time right now. Hang in there, sweetie!
