Question:
Tonight I ate almost a whole slize of pizza with pineapple and ham on it and two

small chicken wings and I really didnt feel as BLOATED as I thought I would. I thought I probably could have eaten more. Is this too much food at 8 weeks post op? I am learning quickly that CARBS are a nightmare and you feel hungry quickly. I feel hungry again 3 hours later.    — Pizofret (posted on February 22, 2003)

My input on your question would be a common sense approach to weight loss: The food choices you made (pizza and chicken) aren't the kinds of foods you want to eat IN GENERAL. Going through the surgery was an enormous feat within itself. I'm sure that those are the foods that got us overweight in the first place. Even if you can get away with it, why bother until the weight is gone?

if you have to ask here...well you already know the answer. these were very poor food choices. i am 8 weeks post op and have not even considered pizza. recently i added chicken to my intake it has to be well cooked and in soup. i manage about 1/2 cup of soup and in there i would guess is about 1 tablespoon of chicken. i wish you the very best and hope you find yourself a nutritionist. it would be a great help!

I have to agree that at 8 weeks out there was no way I could try to eat that...I wouldn't be able to sustain it. Heck today at 7 months out I can not even eat a whole slice of pizza, the bread is a killer to me, too filling, I can eat the cheese and scrap the sauce but can only get about half of the slice in before I start feeling funky. Just get back on track, don't push it too soon. It's ok to treat yourself, but you must give yourself time to heal and get into a rhythm of this new lifestyle before you start experimenting or your setting yourself up for sabotage...best of luck to you..tomorrow is a new day!

Hi hon, it does seem like a lot for only being 8 weeks but no sense in beating your self up about it just at this tender stage stick with more protien stuff and less fatty/carb stuff this way you get the most use of your new tool....also measure out ur food, you should only be able to consume a few ounces at this point...good luck!!

Lisa, I am about 4 months out and will not beat you up for eating pizza and chicken wings! I am betting you don't eat that every day. What size pizza are we talking about here? I huge one, or a single serving size? I can eat 1 1/2 slices of an individual size pizza - and now I get mine with vegetables and sometimes some meat. No matter - I have days where I think I am putting too much food in and other days where I can't eat all of a scrambled egg because of feeling full. You are right about carbs! Try to get protein in first, then veges, then carbs. Pizza once in a while is okay. Try to eat a small amount of food 5-6 times a day (protein based) to help prevent the hungries.

Original poster here....Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it! To answer some questions, It was a small slice from a small pie and I didnt eat the crust and I took the cheese off for the last few bites. I know it wasnt the best food choice and this is the second time I have had pizza. I have it once per month. I DO have a nutritionist but that doesnt mean anything when it comes to ones self-control. I am sure she would not be thrilled with me eating pizza but I am careful not to abuse this tool. I feel sometime people getting a little testy on here as my questions was... Do you think I ate too much? Not do you think I ate the right thing? Sometimes, people tend to lose track of the question. I appreciate all the input however and was just concerned that for some reason I was able to eat a whole slice. I was even able to eat my protein bar pretty quickly yesterday where it usually takes me 4 hours. I will see what today brings!! Thanks again for everyone's input!

There is nothing wrong with eating the toppings off of a slice of pizza. The chicken wings are fine if the skin is gone. I'm not 8 weeks yet but I suspect I could eat the toppings off a small slice of pizza now at 3 weeks and it would not be off my program as long as it was cheese and meat and no veggies. I'm not supposed to have veggies or fruit yet - just protein. A chicken wing doesn't have a lot of meat on it so it might be just fine for quantity. Next time if you want to see if you are eating too much cook everything and then remove the toppings and remove the chicken from the bones and weigh it. It might be within your program as long as you are not getting too full from it. Pizza toppings is something I intend to try in the near future and it is on my surgeons list of okay things. I will skip the chicken at that point as I am not out as far as you.

For me it can depend on the week, the day, the hour....who knows? Some days I have the ability to have a higher intake (and different intake) than other days. Some days I can eat pizza and other days I cannot stomach the thought of it. Since I'm just about 7 weeks, I find all of this intriguing and have started to keep a food diary. If I overate every day I would be concerned but some days I hardly eat and other days I think I overdo it. Most days I make healthy choices but sometimes, depending on the situation and how I'm feeling, a slice of pizza is a solution (Last week I could barely eat anything most of the day but had success with a small thin crusted slice of pizza for dinner). Maybe a food diary or keeping track on fitday.com would help you see not only how much you are eating but how good your choices are most of the time.

From being on this board a while, I can tell you, that it seems like the pouch sizes are different and that can effect how much some eat at what stages. At 8 weeks, that amount would have been too much for me, but perhaps not for you. And as you mentioned, pizza is not an everyday food for you. As far as feeling hungry 3 hours later, at 8 weeks post-op, I was eating every 3 hours-small amounts. Your right, sometimes people don't take the time to read the question carefully before they answer!!

All pouch sizes are different and from looking at your profile it appears you started off as a lightweight. If you didn't feel overly full afterwards and if it took three hours until you were hungry again, then I don't see the problem. I also don't see a problem with eating chicken wings even with the skin.

I dont think its too much food, I'm only 5 weeks out as of monday and i slipped and ate a slice of totinos party pizza. I ate 1/8th of a pizza. I was like this is it, this is all i could eat. My two and three yo's ate more then me. I'm just jealous of them right now. But anyway, the amount you eat depends on what you eat. Like i can drink and drink almost anything but i measure out 1/2 cup cottage cheese and i'm full from it. I have had chicken from kfc also, it tasted funny to me, like liver so i wont do the chicken thing again for a while, but i live off of chicken broth from progresso and i could keep drinking it and drinking it but i only measure out 3/4 cup for me. I wouldnt worry about eating too much right now, I eat until i'm satisfied and not full. Like right before I feel like i'm going to be full I try to stop, sometimes i keep going until i'm full but mostly i try to stop before that cause i dont like the full feeling in my new pouch. Then again i'm a newbie and dont have much experience with this, just my personal op, your doing ok.
