Question:
For those who only eat 20 grams of carbs.....

What in the world do you eat??? I am having a hard time gettting in my protein without alot of carbs (i.e. dairy milk & cheese) What do you eat? I can only eat about 2 oz of meat but I can eat about 4-6 ounce of other food - soups, soft food. My problem is I cant find anything high protein without a lot of carbs except for plain meat. My stomach doesnt handle regular meat very well yet so I am open for suggestions. Anything but a protein shake....    — Debbie W. (posted on November 18, 2002)

I don't know if this will help you keep your carbs under 20 grams or not (I don't do that), but tofu is another non-meat protein source you might consider. There's tofu burgers, tofu cheese, tofu hot dogs, etc. I like tofu cheeses in different flavors, scrambled in with egg beaters. :)

Hi Debbie, I eat around 20 carbs per day (plus or minus). My average daily meal is 4 oz cottage cheese with pineapple for breakfast, salad with cut-up chicken and regular salad dressing for lunch, and I have whatever my family is eating for dinner, minus the bread/rice/pasta. For snacking I eat peanuts or cashews, and I eat low carb high protein bars - I like Carb Solutions chocolate mint, and EAS Advant Edge low carb bars, which come in a few flavors. My favorite of those is the chocolate chip brownie. I don't always stay low carb, occasionally have a couple rice cakes, or peanut butter crackers as snacks. But so far, doing okay, 10 months post-op and down 90lbs. Good luck.

Hi, I keep my carbs under 20 grms . So, I eat tuna salad, hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs, turkey, ham, hamburger, salad with mayonaise dressing, lobster, shrimp, any type of fish, chicken, roast beef, some peanut butter, nuts, pepperoni, sausage, all types of cheese etc.... I stay on the Dr. Atkins diet, if I stray i don't lose, read the profile, lol. He has some great recipes in his Diet book, and he also has a a new book out of just recipes. Low carb can be soo boring if you don't attempt spice it up a little and do different recipes, his book has really helped me make low carbing a good thing. Good luck to you! :)

Tuna rolled inside a lettuce leaf, corned beef (use the canned corned beef - already tenderized and no need to chew, chew, chew) and cabbage, chicken and broccoli with alfredo sauce. Personally, I don't count non-starch carbs. I strictly limit potatoes, corn, hominy, carrots, rice, bread, etc. Good luck!
