Question:
I am 6 months post op and 4 months pregnant with twins!

The doctors don't really know what to do with me. They are suceeding in scaring the heck out of me. Can someone give me rational advice on how to make sure my babies have a chance of being healthy. This was totally unplanned and to our knowledge impossible. God has a strange sense of humor :)    — Deena W. (posted on April 29, 2002)

Wow!! Well let me be the first to say Congratulations!!! :) I would think you should probably go see an OB/GYN that deals with high risk pregnancies, and most definitely make sure he/she is in contact with your surgeon so that they both know what is going on with both cases. I am by no means a pro, just my thoughts! Congratulations again!! :)

Deena, Congratulations!! This will surely be a blessing, or should I say 2 blessings:~) There are many that get pregnant after WLS, many because of suddenly becoming fertile from the weight loss, and they have very healthy babies. There is a group on yahoo. I looked it up before posting here to get the address. You might want to check it out, there are over 500 members and a very active group. www.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-pregnant/ Geez, I hope I got that right, it may be an http in the beginning instead, I didn't write that part down. Anyway, try it and see if it works. Take good care of yourself and those babies, how exciting!!!

first off, Congratulations! I am still pre-op and have not yet had children, but hope to after surgery. i know you must be so happy and scared at the same time. ALl i can say is that besides seeing a high-risk OB, but make sure to get in all of your protein 60-70grams a day, and take vitamin suplements, esp. for iron and b12 if you are low in that area. I will pray for you and your new bundles of joy :)

Okay, I have some input that should put your mind at ease. If you are not getting adequate nutrition when you are pregnant, the baby (or in your case, babies) will always come first. That means you'll suffer, but normally your children will take what they need to grow normally. There are plenty of starving women in Africa and other places who give birth to healthy children all the time. Yes, this was a little early to get pregnant, but you will make it through, and your children will be fine. Just remember: supplement, supplement, supplement. Protein and calcium first! Constantly drink water. Have frequent check-ups. Good luck!

I know of one woman personally who got pregnant four months after weight loss surgery and she had to double her vitiamins, have weekly check-ups and was constantly in and out of the hospital on IV's. Her child was born healthy, but a bit underweight. With twins you will have to be very careful. Good luck to you!

I, myself, am 12 months post op, and 7 months pregnant. You MUST stay up on all your vitamins AND I would suggest extra protein, which is what my doctor told me. I'm perfectly healthy, and have continued to lose a lot of weight. I have no regrets! Good luck to you, and if ya wanna chat, email me at [email protected]. : )

If what Cheri posted doesn't get you there, go to www.yahoo.com. Then choose groups and do a search for OSSG pregnancy. That's how I found it once.

THank you all so much for your support. I have my ultrasound on Friday and that is what the doctors are waiting for before they make judgements on if everything is going well. I am a nervous wreck but praying through it :) I have an appt with the high risk OB on Monday I will keep you all updated. Again Thank you so much
