Question:
Why am I suddenly vomiting everything except water?

I am just over 4 weeks post op (Lap RNY) and I have started vomiting after I eat. I know I have chewed my food really well, because all I vomit up is food-flavored mush. (sorry, that was gross) I vomit violently, and am so exhausted afterwards. My abdomen hurts afterwards, and has continued to hurt since... almost as bad as the first week after surgery. My stomach also burbles and bubbles after I eat, and I dont drink anything while I am eating, either. I am very careful not to drink for an hour before eating and for an hour after eating. I STILL throw up, and it HURTS!! Last night I tried waiting for an hour after I threw up and ate a popsicle, and I threw that up too. This morning, I was able to drink my protien shake and a 32 oz. of water, but am afraid to try food. What to do, what to do????    — Sharon H. (posted on January 14, 2002)

You could possibly have a stricture. You are a prime candidate being that you are 4 weeks out. Contact your doctor.

I went through a period like that also. What were you eating, how big were your bites and what was the time period between bites? I bet you $10 you don't have a stricture, but by all means call your surgeon. My little episode passed after about 2 days. I'm sure it's nothing major. Let me know, okay? I'll waive the $10.

I am having this same problem too. I had an RNY Dec 6th and this started at about the third week or so. I had an endoscopy which showed that I just wasnt healed yet inside so i had a stricture. This kind of stricture needs to work itself out. So i'm on a liquid diet until further notice. You should see your doctor to make sure this isnt serious.
