Question:
I had open rny 7 wks ago and I am experiencing pain in the upper

right side of my incision. It is worse at night when I turn over on my right side and when I put on socks on my right foot. It is a dull pain and feels like I am lying on an object when I lie on the right. I have had a lot of gas lately and my bm's are chalky and yellow. The pain is not intense but enough to make me wince at times. Does anyone know if this is a symptom of early gall bladder disease? I had an ultrasound of gall bladder a year ago and there was no sign of disease then. My surgeon didn't see any disease when he operated on me. Thanks for any information on this!    — [Anonymous] (posted on November 30, 2001)

It could be your gallbladder. I started having upper abdominal and mid-sternum pain at about 8 weeks post-op. My gallbladder ultrasound did not show any gallstones, but my surgeon felt that my gallbladder bile was getting thick and sludgy. I started on Actigall and have had no further problems. So, I'm fairly certain that my pain (which was very intense) was due to my gallbladder.

hello, I've noticed that an awful lot of us seem to have that pain at about the same time after surgery. Could be just the healing process. If it is bothering you too much call your surgeon. I did and she just renewed my pain medication. After about 2 more weeks the pain was gone. Hope you are doing well otherwise. debbie
