Question:
If RNY and panniculectomy is done at the same time will it have to be redone after weight loss?

My surgeon will do an open RNY and panniculectomy at the same time. I have about 170 lbs to lose. Should I do it with the surgery or not. I do have a large fat apron already. Will I need it done again after my weight lose?    — kristis (posted on April 8, 2001)

Kristi, I had the panni with my RNY as I had hernia repair that needed to be done............. My doctor says that at approximately 12 months out I will need to have another. Am I sorry that I had it at the time of the WLS? No........ It makes a huge difference. Just be aware that the resulting changes are instantanious and strange!

I think everyone has a different answer for this. It just depends on how your body reacts to the weight loss. I had the pann. done at the same time as my bypass & have lost 130lbs so far. My stomach is still perfectly flat & has not sagged (nor thank goodness have I developed a hernia). I also think alot has to do w/the skill of the surgeon.
