Question:
Has anyone had this experience wit Prozac

I have been on it for a month and I find I am sleeping alot and cant seem to quit eating. I am not gaining any weight but cant tell if I am full. I made an appt with the doc but I want to see if this is normal side effects that are temp. Also since I started taking it I can tolerate sugar and not dump.    — Lisa J. Hi Lisa, I don't take Prozac but do take Zoloft, but was on it years prior to surgery. When I first started taking Zoloft it made me very sleepy for a few weeks, so I took it at night and it made a world of difference. I am two years post op and don't dump on anything as long as it's not eaten in excess(which for me has been a problem) It was much easier to make good food choices when I dumped. My PCP says Zoloft can increase your appetite, so I am trying to wean myself off of them. Good Luck! Karen

Not to frighten you, but Prozac is what helped me gain over 100 pounds as a pre-op. I would be very careful. They use to say that prozac would help you lose, but they are finding it has an opposite effect on some. Talk with your doctor, and best of luck to you.

I havent had surgery or anything, but i used to take prozac... Personally, i feel its the worst anti depresant on the market. It made me tired aswell and hungry all the time. I tried something else. Maybe you should call your psych and look into an alternative medication. I found welbutrin and celexa are good.

Just wanted to add my experience. I was having a hard time with eating after my rny surgery. My dr, to increase my appetite prescribed Prozac. If that is any indication to you. He gave it to me to gain weight. I took it about 5 or 6 days. I felt horrible. Slept all the time. Finally stopped taking it. It took about 2 days to get it out of my system so that i wasnt sleepy all the time. So i would be very careful in taking it.

OMG!! I take Prozac and I have gained 100 pounds in the last 2 years!! I never knew Prozac caused increased appetite/weight gain!! Not to be blunt, but so far this is the only antidepressant I've taken that hasn't had bad sexual side effects. Well, shoot! Does anyone have any recommendations? I see my psychiatrist next Wednesday, so I could see about switching if this is causing my weight gain. Please send a message from my profile if anyone responds. I'm new here and don't know how to get back to this page - LOL.

Wow - I'm surprised to hear of others who have had similar experiences with Prozac. I personally feel that as far as an antidepressant, Prozac is awesome. I always took mine at night and didn't have any problems with tiredness. But I was on an intense diet and exercise plan last year for 7 months straight and only lost 5 pounds. I really think that the only reason I didn't gain is because I was working so hard to lose. My sister gained 20 lbs in a month on Prozac. I'm now on a different med., due to the weight issue, and we're both looking into WLS.

Am I the only one who has taken Prozac and lost weight? I took it for "chronic daily migraines". I lost 8 Lbs, quicker than I could blink and had all of the energy in the world. I stopped it b/c it did nothing for my headaches (Darn). I just wanted to offer another perspective. ~Keri

Gosh it is amazing how different everybody is. I have taken Prozac off and on for about 5 yrs now. When I first started taking it, I lost 50 lbs in only 6 wks. That was prior to WLS. Now due to some anger, depression and anxiety issues, I am refilling my prescription tonight. I will keep a close eye on how it effects me now as a post-op. Michelle -98
