Question:
Asked and Answered I Know! Am I crazy to get Plas Surg so soon?

Ok - I know this topic/question shows up weekly but I have been reading the Q & A's for the last 2 years and would love some feedback from this group. - I had RNY surgery 2/12/02. I went from 5'2" at 290 - am currently at 146 - I just broke a 7 week plateau at 150. I have my Plastic Surgery consult 4/28 for TT & breast lift and maybe a thigh lift and I want the surgery in June. - I will probably do my arms in November. - I am 30 years old this month - should I wait? - I don't want to. I am looking great except for this saggy baggy elephant syndrome... Thoughts, experiences?    — sara J. (posted on April 13, 2003)

I do not feel there is a such thing as waiting if you are at goal weight. Most surgeons will tell you to be atleast 20-25 pounds away from goal weight or right at it. They stay you should be stablized in your weight, but I have seen people have it when they reach goal. Now if you still have tons more weight to lose I would say wait. The other thing is you may have to fight your insurance company for months before you actually even have the surgeries. I have been fighting my insurance company since November 2002. So the sooner you get started the better. Itis best to have letters from PCP, WLS surgeon, OB GYN,Chiropractor, or Dermatologist if you have one of those doctors listing your problems with skin such as rashes, infections, back, neck, or shoulder pain and problems with body odor or movement to get it approved as reconstructive. If you are self paying those things are not neccessary. Good Luck and God Bless.

I dont see any reason not to do what you want to do...my doctor's told me to wait for 24 months to have anything done because you are pretty much done losing all the weight...but how much more could you possibly lose now since you are already at goal weight and would there be any skin probs if you did lose more...ask your plastic surgeon that question and then if he doesnt see a problem do it!! And let us all know how it goes because as soon as I have the money for plastic surgery I am having a total body renovation!!!!

Sara, I had my RNY a week before you and my surgeon said I am ready anytime for plastics. I'm about 6-8 pounds from goal so have been trying to get there before starting the process, but as long as you are within 20 of goal and the weight loss has slowed to a trickle, and you are over a year post-op, I think your right on schedule. The only thing holding me back right now is I don't like the thought of that long scar from a TT nor do I want another major surgery this soon..but its in my future, for sure...
