Question:
Anyone not have addtl. tummy skin after WLS?

Couple of questions. Has anyone had WLS without having a lot of excess tummy skin afterward or is it just something that will probably happen after WLS? Also I have heard the younger you are, the less skin (because of elasticity)? I am 22 yrs. old. Does excercise help?? Thanks!!    — J. W. (posted on September 16, 2002)

I guess there are quite a few factors, age, childbirth, where you carry your weight, etc. I am 32, no children and was an "apple" shape. I don't have much redundant skin at all. I will not require a tummy tuck. Don't get me wrong, it's not a beautiful sight...but it's reasonable considering how much I used to weigh. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -129

This is the reason why I am glad I'm a slow loser.I have a cousin who had the surgery and she lost a lot of weight so fast that she looks drawn and sickly, she looks like she just recently lost a lot of weight, lots of hanging skin. I however looks like I was this size all along. I have no hanging skin or flab, everyone says that everything is going down nicely. I won't need a tummy tuck but I want one because I want a nice flat stomach. I used to get kind of angry because I lost so slowing but now I'm please it is slow because my skin doesn't hang. I look normal, 8/30/2001 120 pound lost 40 more to go , goal 150. Try to excercise as much as possible, and walk, walk, walk. Good luck

I'm 39 and I was 270LBS, my weight was more or less evenly distributed. I'm down 92lbs in 6.5 months and so far except for the upper, inside portion of my tighs things are not looking too bad, my stomack is coming right down and if things keep this way for the next 45lbs I should be able to tone if all up with weight lifting and exercise and will not need plastic surgery.
