Question:
I am wondering why post op bowel movements are yellowish in color....

when pre-op it was all brown. Is there a scientific explanation for this?    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 20, 2002)

What are you eating/drinking? What color is baby poop? I'm not being smarty here, just asking if there is a similarity.

I eat just about everything in moderation and my bowel movements are still yellow. I don't think it has much to do with what we are eating. It has something to do with how the food is digested and mixed with the gastric juices. Our whole system is re-wired and resulted in a different color. Not to be concerned. It is very common.

I am almost 3 mos PostOp and I thought something was wrong with my liver or something! lol. I am thinking the color may have something to do with all of the vitamins too. (Going to ask doc about this...if I find out the answer, I'll post again!) Good luck everyone!

If you still have your gallbladder, this can be an early symptom that it is going bad - pale stools. Make sure you don't cut out all the fat in your diet - your body NEEDS some (everything in moderation, though). Ask your doc about Actigal. If you don;t have your GB, I wouldn't worry too much. WEird food = weird stool.

I am having the same problem. It is yellow because of a substance called "Bilirubin". It is a waste product of red blood cells. When you are obese your liver gets fatty liver disease. It takes about 6 months after surgery for your liver to clean it's self out and get rid of the fat. If you ahve a Liver Function Test done it may show that your liver enzymes are real high, like mine. There may be a high level of the "Bilirubin" in your system. I went to my PCP complaining of poop the color if Big Bird. A simple urine and blood test found the culprit. Good luck to all. God Bless. Lap RNY 6/16/05 292/238
