Question:
How do you check the qualifications of a Dr. in Mexico?

I am looking at PS in Mexico and want to check qualifications. Can anyone tell me how to do this?    — Kimberley E. (posted on September 10, 2003)

Just like in the US a plastic surgeon has to be certified and they are subject to high standards like a US doc and just like in the US they can lose their license for malpractice so do check them out. You can contact the Mexican Association of Plastic Surgery (Asociacion Mexicana De Cirugia Plastica in Mexico). I got their email addy off of the Genesis Clinics FAQ page EMail: [email protected]. I know you can check there for plastic surgeons. I really think though that whomever you choose you really need to talk with some of their patients to get a feel for their total experience. The surgeon, what the facility is like, what their results were, if they had any complications, if they felt comfortable with the situation, were they well taken care of in all aspects of their surgery & stay. Besides needing an excellent surgeon who has done other surgeries similiar to whatever you're seeking with whatever situation you're facing, you want to know that their facility was clean and up to date, that the staff took good care of you both pre & post op, that there were no "surprise" fees, things like that. Plus you don't want to go somewhere where everyone who is a post op ends up with an infection or go to someone who has a lot of complications in their patients or possibly some deaths. Just like in the US you want to make sure you ask these questions just like you did for your WLS. Good luck in choosing your surgeon!

Check out my profile for Dr. Alejandro Aguirre out of Ensenada Mexico! I had a fabulous trip with NO complications and would do it again in a heartbeat. I also have a link on my page to my website! Good luck to you and please feel free to ask me ANY questions! BTW, my surgery cost a total of $9500 with airfare, hotel and food for my traveling companion, my sister!

I had open RNY in Mexico with Dr. Aguirre. I did a great deal of research before making the decision to go to Mexico. You can contact the American Embassy in Mexico for complaints. You can contact the Mexican Embassy in the US for complaints. You can also contact the Medical Board in Mexico and also the Medical Board in the US city that's closest to the Mexican city you are considering using. I also contacted the American Medical Association and they gave me information on how to do the research on a doctor out of the country. I also contacted the Organizations that my doctor said he was a member of. Good luck to you!
