Question:
how do I know if I have a stricture???

I am 3 mo post op and I am having an extremely difficult time with food. I get the feeling that food is stuck at least 3 times weekly and usually have to vomit for relief. I have been sticking to soups ( I only eat the broth) and protien shakes to avoid the discomfort that food causes. I tried to eat scrambled eggs a few days ago and I felt like my throat was constricting as the food went down. I am getting really frustrated! I want to eat more variety, but it is impossible- 2 tiny bites of any substantial food makes me sick... Help-Thanks!    — k R. (posted on March 27, 2002)

The only way to tell for sure if you have a stricture is to be scoped. If you aren't able to tolerate foods, with only two bites, this could very well be the cause. At three months it isn't common, but it can happen. You really need to get with your doc on this. I have had 2 strictures and know that they can be miserable. I hope you feel better soon.
