Question:
Anyone have these protein bars?

I was out shopping today and stopped at GNC to get a protein bar since it was lunchtime and I was on the go. I found one that is by Atkins called Advantage. Has anyone everyone tried these? And if so are they ok for us to have? They have only 2.6 carbs, 19 gr. protein no sugar and like 350 grams of potassium. I'm probably going to sound stupid, but, is that too much potassium? I only ate 1/2 the bar and will have the other half another time. I know we should get in our potassium so we don't have problems with our hearts and such. But, I just wanted to know if it's possible to have too much potassium? Oh I'm 5 months post-op open RNY down 78 pounds. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.    — Marlene H. Yesterday I had alot of errands to run before a snowstorm hit and before my husband had to catch a plane. KMart was my last stop and I realized it was 11am and I hadn't had any breakfast. I found the Carb Solutions bars in the section with the Slim Fast, etc. I chose a blueberry one because it seemed 'breakfast-y'. It had 21g protein, 2g sugar and next to nothing of carbs, if any at all. It tasted ok, I'd buy another one if I was in this situation again. It was a bit sickeningly sweet after a few bites, but otherwise not bad. Sam's Club carries Carb Solutions also, and probably at a better price then other stores. This was $1.79 for a single bar which isn't bad compared to other bars that I've seen.

I discovered some great protein bars at Trader Joe's--they have a whole section devoted to protein bars and drinks and the prices are great! The store brand is much cheaper and the protein count is HIGH. I think it's 19 g or something close to that.

I eat the Atkins Advantage bars all of the time. The Almond Brownie is my favorite. I just had my bllod work done and everything including potassium was fine. They are a nice treat, or a quick meal. Enjoy.

I eat these (average 1/2 to 1 a day) and not only are they high in protein, but they also seem to curb my sweets cravings! I love the Chocolate Coconut and the Almond Brownie is ok. The Lemon Chiffon would be good if you like white chocolate (unfortunately I don't). The other flavors taste like wet dog to me :( (I am really picky.) I am planning to try the Pralines & Cream and the Cinnamon Swirl flavors. I found that you can order individual bars from www.netrition.com for like $1.65. They also have some cinnamon breakfast bars . . . Anybody try these, yet?<p>Another bar I have found that I really like is the PowerBar Protein Plus Sugar Free in Mocha Almond Fudge. (16g protein) They also have a Caramel Apple flavor that sounds good, but I haven't tried it yet. This one had NO aftertaste at all, which I can't really say about the Atkins bars. Good luck in your search. I finally just went to buying one of everything that sounded good and if it tasted bad after one bite, in the trash it went! Maybe that's wasteful but I did find at least three bars that I really like that way!
