If you read my page you will see that I had the same problem. What helped me was that I "broke up" my protein consumption and stretched it throughout the day by making smaller portions. I was required to have 70grams (various Dr's have different amounts). A protein shake at 8oz of water runs +/-20grams depending on what you use. I made mine 2oz of water and a teaspoon of mix many times eah day until I could drink all 8oz at one "meal". Your stomach may still be swollen.

I couldn't stand the protein shakes, so my dietitian told me to drink "double protein" milk instead. Follow the mixing directions on a package of powdered milk, substituting skim milk for the water. You'll get double the protein of regular milk that way.

You're not going to win any awards for protein consumption this early postop. Just do the best you can and it will get better. Most people can tolerate NSA carnation instant breakfast. You might try that if you can't get anything else down. It's not real heavy on the protein but better than nothing!

At your stage, do the very best you can. I was nowhere near what the doctor recommended. I had a talk with him & the nutritionist and they both said the same thing...their suggestions are a goal (that early postop). At that stage it is FAR more important to stay hydrated and get adequate nutrition. It does get better though so keep on trecking!!! Good luck!
