Question:
Heard there was a card out there stating that you had surgery you present to

restraunts so that you could order off the kids menu or to get a discounted rate on salad bars since we do not eat much- where do you sign up to get this card?    — Sarah A. (posted on October 11, 2002)

Look at obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/restaurantcard.html if your doctor doesn't give them out. Best of luck!

BTC gives them to their patients. One side says that you've had surgery that reduces the size of your stomach and asks that you be allowed to order off the kids or senior menu. Unfortunately, most restaurants have undesirable menu items on the kids menu....fried shrimp, fried chicken fingers, french fries, hot dogs....nothing really healthy.

I received the card from my Doctor. On one side, it says "Medic Alert" - Place NG tube carefully. Bariatric Surgery. The other side is the restaurant card. I agree with the previous poster that the majority of the food out there on the kids menu is not really what we should be eating, but a few restaurants have salad bars, and some healthy choices to choose from. Ask your Doctor about the card.

You're better off ordering an appetizer for a meal or sharing a meal with someone. I have seem posts where people get made because restaurants won't take them why put yourself through that? Especially at a buffet after all wouldn't we have been outraged if a restaurant said it looks like you eat a lot so your buffet costs more. I ask on occasion if adults are allowd to order the kids meals without explaining. Most fastfood restaurants like Subway, Long John Silver, Mcdonalds etc. let you and so does Cracker Barrel their menu says kids of all ages. Of course you need to really need to avoid the fastfood restaurants for the most part.

I made up my own cards using a program on my computer that allows me to make business cards. Printmaster Premier is the name of it. Anyway, I made them, but I have never used them. I just take home leftovers. A lot of places won't honor those cards...so I figure why bother...I just take home the leftovers and have another meal tomorrow...sometimes even the next day. It's a great way to stretch the food dollar. My Dh and I recently went to NYC for our anniversary and we had a meal that cost us over $150 for the two of us (without alcoholic drinks mind you). I took that $65.00 filet mignon back to the hotel (we had a fridge in our room) and then before we left NYC I got a little cooler/lunch bag thing to put it in for the train ride home. I enjoyed that filet mignon for three days. I felt better about spending that much money on a little piece of steak when I reminded myself that I could enjoy it for three days (LOL). But, that's just me. Have a Sparkling Day! ~CAE~

It is true that most doctors give them to their patients, but mine didn't. I asked this questions a few weeks back and these are the sites I got... http://members.tripod.com/Daryl_D/cards.html http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/restaurantcard.html I printed them out and then I took them to my surgeon in hopes that he could maybe make one for the rest of his patients.

AS a BTC patient, I do have the card in my wallet...however, I have never gotten it out. I just tell my waitress (or waiter) that I had surgery that restricts what I can eat and could I please have a childrens menu. To date, I haven't been refused even once. If the wait staff can't help you, ask to see the manager. Most of them are very accomodating. Good Luck

Hi!<br> I'm with the previous poster. I just tell them that I've had surgery and can eat next to nothing, so could I order off the kids menu? I haven't had a problem yet. I haven't tried a buffet yet, but I'd probably go with the same theme and tell them if I eat more than the kids portion, they can charge me. :) <br> As far as nothing healthy on the kids menu, they usually have hamburgers. I just get my burger without the bun, and the most healthy side item I can find.<br> Kelly
