Question:
I have a tingeling sensation sometimes in my fingertips

~ I have noticed it off and on since I have had my surgery but not anything on a consistant basis. I went for my 6 week apt last week and everything is going as it is suppose to~ wondered if anyone else out there has this?    — Sarah A. (posted on June 18, 2002)

Does it affect all of your fingers? or just the three except your pinky (index, middle and ring fingers? If that is the case, then you likely have carpal tunnel problems and that has nothing to do with WLS. Just happens to be primarily a coincidence that it started up at the same time as WLS.

I called my doctor's office about this very thing yesterday. At my one month check-up, there was a question on a sheet I had to complete about whether or not I was having tingling in my fingers or feet. I have started having that so I called. The nurse asked me if I took my vitamins and, unfortunately, I don't take them everyday. In fact, last week I only took them once. She said that is why I am having the tingling. If you aren't taking your vitamins regularly, this could be why you are experiencing the tingling in your fingers.

I noticed on your profile that you had gained a significant amount in the hospital from fluid. Sometimes that can cause compression of the nerves in your wrists and bring on a temporary case of carpal tunnel (pregnant women often have it for the same reason). Talk to your dr to be sure but if that's what it is there is likely no permanent damage. I have had carpal tunnel in the past (both hands) and have been able to keep it in check. Chances are that if that's what is bothering you it will disappear as you lose more weight and the nerves have a chance to recover from being sqooshed!
