Question:
Has anyone thrown up food that's been stuck in pouch for days?

I am 2 mos. out from an RNY, and have had hit or misses with food and vomiting, especially meats. However, I had an okay time with meat at the beginning of this week. Then, as the week progressed I ate less and less each day, feeling totally full (as little as 2 bites). Finally yesterday, I could eat nothing. I felt so incredibly nauseous after a drink of milk. At lunch I had one bite and had to stop. Came back and threw up. Then two hours later threw up again. Dark brown stuff (of which I had not eaten for 2 days). Then an hour later, two more times, and just loads of vomit...much more that I had eaten the last day or two. (Sorry if this is blunt). Anyway, after this last, big vomit I feel fine. I began to think that maybe that meat I ate earlier this week actually blocked up the bottom of my stomach, and therefore my intake of food was slowly decreased until it just all had to come out. Is this totally outlandish, or has anyone else experienced such a thing? Thanks in advance for any assistance.    — Tracy L. (posted on August 24, 2001)

Absolutely. This happens whenever I eat red meat. I'll chew and chew and think that it went down just fine but the exact same thing that you experienced always ends up happening. I finally just gave up on red meat.

Me too. This happened with oatmeal--believe it or not. I ate it on a Monday and by Wednesday had terrible abdominal pain. Threw up several times and most of it was the oatmeal from 2 days prior. I will NEVER eat oatmeal again.

yes...ditto....gave up on red meat, oatmeal (any kind of cereal is deadly for me), and other starches, no bread, rice, pasta, etc. Sticking to protein supplements, veggies and fruit worked well for me the first nine months. good luck.

While it's great to get everyone's take on their experience I personally would call my surgeon or PCP just to make sure everything's ok. Just my 2cents :).

If food you ate days ago is hanging around and you are sick til you throw up everything in your pouch, I would be afraid you have a narrowing in the stoma or a blockage in the intestine. May I suggest you call your doctor immediately and tell him you threw up food you ate days ago?
