Question:
Calling on someone else who is B12 deficient .what are you did you do?

I had blood work done last week and just got word Friday that I am B12 deficient. The doc wants me to come for another visit this week. What did you do? B-12 shots? Vitamins? I have noticed I'm depressed and "blank" (not empty) than more than usual andI'm forgetting a lot (thought it was just stress at work), plus other things. I would like to know what you're doing for the deficiency and have you felt better after getting B12? Thanks    — Betty Todd (posted on August 4, 2002)

You don't say how far that you are out from your surgery. The nutritionist on my surgeon's staff says that B-12 shots/sublingual B-12 should start within the first two months after surgery. <p> I had my RNY surgery on 7/17. I was in the hospital last week for a non-related problem and I asked my PCP to order a B-12 shot for me while I was in the hospital. He also wrote a prescription for B-12 when I left. My wife is a nurse and she'll be giving me my monthly IM B-12 shots. The rule is 500 mcg sublingually daily or 1000 mcg IM monthly.

hiya you can get shots but my doc (pcp) was against them so what i do is take one b-12 pill sublingually every day - it is 1300% of daily recomended amount so i think it meets my needs! lol i get mine at trader joes. you can also get a liquid b-12 that you take sublingually but i don't care for the taste and the pill is tiny and it dissolves very quickly. good luck!

I too was deficient in B12. I talked with the dietician and she recommended going to GNC and picking up some liquid B12. I mix it in with a shot of Orange Juice or other liquid and take 1000 mcg daily. We'll see if it helps, but I can feel I have more energy now. Good Luck

I'm taking shots twice a month. After around 6-9 months of shots, it's finally helping some. But I'm still tired out all the time. I don't know if B-12 hurts memory but mine is almost completly gone.

I too had some b12 defficiency, and yes, it can hurt your memory and moods.... The shots weren't enough for me, I have to take the sublingual, and that way I know I'm getting my b12 every day and I can watch how it makes me feel. and I pay for it when I don't! Good luck to you !

I had a B-12 Deficiency "Pernicious Anemia" before I ever had this surgery and take B-12 shots every 2 weeks sometimes if I start feeling wore down before the two weeks, I go ahead and take one a week early since my surgery 8 weeks ago, within a day I feel totally different and my energy returns.
