Question:
Is there anyone who had the reflux sugery (fundolication-spelling?) before having the

weight loss sugery? (the one where they wrap the stomach/esphogaus so they no other acid comes back up? I am concerned about being a candidate for wls because I already had this other surgery several years ago. I am wondering if there is anyone who would mind either sharing your experiance with this either here or if you would email me privately with your stories about it. I would greatly appreciate it and hope it will help calm my nerves. Thanks guys and gals! :)    — Julie M. (posted on November 30, 2003)

Hi Julie! I too had the fundoplication done about 2 years prior to my weight loss surgery and my surgeon had to "take it down" before she could proceed onto the gastric by bypass. She explained it to me as she needed that part of the stomach back in order to form the new pouch. I had an Open RNY done, she did it as an open procedure because it was a more complicated surgery and longer due to having to undo the fundiplication. I am a few weeks shy of 2 1/2 years post-op and I have not had any GERD symptoms come back, the WLS takes care of it. I wish you the best and if you have any other questions feel free to write to me at [email protected] Blessings on your journey! Anita

My Mom just had this surgery. Her Dr. told her that if she had the procedure, she would never be able to have the weight loss procedure. Check with your Dr.
