Question:
Anyone get positive test back for H. pylori

Anyone get positive test back for H. pylori in pre-op testing and take prevpac to knock it? How did you get along with the meds? I started it yesterday and one of the side effects is headache and man do I have a headache! The surgeons office called and said this bug causes some people to vomit after surgery and called in these meds for me. Surgery is 12-12-03 and I will be taking the last dose of meds on like the 10th. Just wanted to know if anyone had this and how they got along with the strong meds. Dave    — Dave H. I took the prevpak meds, and did have a slight headache. I finished the meds; then 3 days after my last dose, I broke out in a case of hives that lasted a week!

I tested positive for H Pylori 7 weeks AFTER my surgery. I was very ill for several weeks, constant nausea and vomiting. I was given two differrent antibiotics for this and also put on prilosec. When I was scoped, they found I had two ulcers, which I was told was the result of having H pylori.

Hi Dave, I had some complications and a second surgery to repair an internal hernia. During the recuperation period I was still very sick (needed two dilations to partially correct this). The gastroenterologist diagnosed H. Pylori as well and put me on the Previpac. I took the medications thru a feeding tube (still couldn't eat/take meds by mouth at this point). I was only able to take 3 or 4 days worth. They made me so much sicker (nausea/vomiting and general blah feeling) that I was miserable. I stopped the meds after talking to dr and haven't had anymore problems since then. Good luck with the course...I hope it works for you.
