Question:
falling down, now in hospital, 150lbs lost in 5mo.

My husband 30 yrs old weighed 436 preop,5 mo ago lost 150, now weighs 289. The prob. was he started to get weak, then began falling and couldn't get up no joke. We went to the Md's office two days ago and she admitted him to the hospital. The hospital ran eveytype of blood test and all labs came back normal. Today they did an MRI it came back normal also. He was not eating much protein before he started to get weak. I am lost and scared any body that knows what could be wrong back please let me know.    — alana P. (posted on April 10, 2002)

I don't have any answers for you just wanted to let you know I will be thinking of him and you and hope it all turns out fine. Maybe it's just the protein. Try and not worry and let the dr take care of it.

I had the same thing. My doctors concluded it was a massive vitamin B deficiency.

I didn't have that experience, but my Dr. said that I had BETTER find a protein I could tolerate, because my labs were so low. Finally, vita4life.net is a predigested liquid protein that I mix in water and an oz. of diet orange soda. Works for me! Now, I get 60 gm. of protein per day PLUS what I eat. ( I order the honey flavor, but there are 4). Good luck to him, our prayers are with you.

Perhaps he isn't eating enough? The first 6 months, I seemed to have equilibrium problems( I chalked it up to losing so much so quickly)I stumbled around a lot. Now I have had to go to 6 small meals a day to ensure I have enough 'fuel' to burn. Definitely he needs to get the protein in. Please let him know he is not alone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

He he is a FAST looser too:) So was I see my profile. Anyway I was unsteady and occasionally still am. Our entire center of gravity and how we carry ourselves changes, causing balance problems. If his labes are ok I would try eating more and give it time. For a short while I felt like I could fall over at any moment. Was he on any prescription drugs? I got dizzy from blood pressure meds and had to watch my blood sugar too, it started to get too low. OFF all prescription drugs now...<P> Is this problem worse in the late afternoon? Say 4 pm? Our circidian rythym changes about this time and mine was much worse from 3:30 till 6 pm.
