Question:
Does the increased malabsorption of a distal RNY require increased supplements?

I had a Lap Distal RNY done on 2/18/02 and I have been trying to find info on the difference between proximal and distal aside from the amount of small intenstine bypassed. I did read on one website that there is more of a need for protein, nutrients, etc. in the distal patients. What other differences might I experience? Can anyone help me to understand more about the distal procedure and/or direct me to any information I might read???    — Stephanie R. (posted on March 5, 2002)

I am 19 months post op and I had a very distal rny. I have had absolutely no problems with malabsorbtion. I take my normal vitamin supplements, drink lots of water and am as healthy as a horse. I have lost 332 pounds and am 2 pounds from goal. I get blood work done regularly to make sure that all of my levels are okay. So far so good. I hope this helps. Your Weight Loss Pal.

HOW distal? We malabsorob certain elements, same as any RNY, but we malabsorb 100% of some of them. The question is, how radically distal?
