Question:
Help Could my pouch be busted?

I have been having a horrible feeling in my stomach lately. Last week I burped for the first time and it came from way down deep like the bottom of my stomach before surgery. This is the first time this has happened since surgery. Today I have been so hungry, I have ate all day. I mean 3 packs of cheese curls, a protein shake for breakfast, 1 egg with cheese and toast with S/F jelly, 1/2 green apple with carmel and 80 oz. of water. Now this is the first time I have ate all of this and don't remember ever eating this much prior to surgery. What is wrong with me? I haven't lost as most people do or should I say not as fast. I can feel things like in the lower part of my stomach where a few weeks ago I didn't have that indigestion part going on. I can feel it gurgling all the way from like the pit of my old tummy. Any suggestions besides the fact that I have over ate today(worrying about this all week and the plane crash today has just sent me to food today and I gave in). I know that but the past month has lead up to it for some reason. It's really weird feeling. Could my pouch be leaking? I don't think even at 6 months I should be able to eat this much without throwing up. We are talking about within 5 hours time. Oh and I ate a bowl of grapes and a hot frank that I forgot to mention. Last week like I said I had some weird feelings in my stomach and felt like something happened. I had a warm feeling up under my breast. Not heartburn type just a warm feeling. Help please :*( I have an appointment to see my surgeon in a few weeks. He can't fit me in any sooner.    — [Anonymous] (posted on November 12, 2001)

I am the original poster. I am sorry I forgot to mention I had the open rny prox. 6 months ago. I know I have over ate today but I feel so full in the bottom of my stomach like before and I have not ate this much prior to this day but have been feeling the full feeling in the pit of my stomach for about a week or more. Also I haven't lost any weight in over a month and never since surgery have I had the bubbling burbs like I have now Thank you for replying.

I agree with the previous poster, I would call your doctors office back adn let then know whats going on. It sounds like you are eating a awful lot. Iam 5 months post op and I know there is no way in you know where that I could eat that much, but you also did not say what type of surgery you had. I would imagine that if your pouch "busted" as you stated you would be ill and in alot of pain, but Iam not a doctor. Call your doc first thing in the A.M. Good luck

sounds like your eating a lot of "junk food" and sometimes that makes your stomach do wierd stuff when its WHOLE. From what i have read here drinking carbonated bev. can swell your pouch, let you eat more, and junk food filling it up is not good. I imagine we all (will) go through spells of this...eating the wrong things...but please dont be afraid to write down what you eat and then tell your doctor. BE RESPONSIBLE AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF PLEASE!!!! I'd rather be safe than sorry...having an broken line or anything wrong sounds like a big OUCH to me...!!!!

Are you transected? If your stomach and pouch are still attached (not physically cut apart) then you could have a disruption. If you have been transected, you would feel pain if it disrupted and probably be very sick with a temp. My staple line disrupted because I was not transected and there was no pain, no feeling at all. I was just able to eat more. I have since had a revision to transection and the chances of disruption are almost nil now. At six months post op, you naturally can eat more as the pouch relaxes some but a noticeable amount suddenly can signify a problem. With your description of gurgling in the lower part of the tummy, sounds like you might just have gas or constipation? Describe all to your doctor and if you feel you are still eating too much ask for an upper GI to see what is going on. It is painless and the only way to know if your staple line is "busted".
