Question:
Skin removal - need to hear from others who has had lower body lift

I had lap rny in Nov of 1999. I am age 39 - 5'9" and lost down from 315 lbs to 120 lbs. (carried most of my weight in hip area) I went June of last year and my plastic surgeon did a complete lower body lift. I have a scar which completely runs arounds my middle section. (very painful surgery!) I still have alot of excess skin in my thigh/upper leg/lower buttock area. I exercise regularly but this will not tone up. Surgeon said it never will without additional surgery. First surgery was expensive and painful and hate to repeat it again - plus wound up in the hospital after the "out-patient" procedure because of severe dehydration/blood pressure bottoming out during surgery, etc. Has anyone had good success with this type of procedure? I've lost 195 lbs can still can't wear shorts. I have put on about 20 lbs because I was so unhealthy and emaciated looking in my face and upper body but my leg area still won't firm up and looks horrible. I would appreciate any feedback on someone who has undergone surgery for excess skin in lower body area.    — Rhonda D. (posted on March 14, 2002)

Is it the surgeon who did your original body lift the same one who is now saying you'll need additional surgery to 'really' fix it? Did he tell you that before you had the original surgery? Were you at goal, or at least close to it at the time? I know these aren't answers, but this doesn't sound right to me.

I looked at your profile and just wanted to tell you that I think you look absolutely beautiful !! Stunning, beautiful. I can only hope & pray that my LAP RNY is as successful...the excess skin? I can only hope to have that problem one day...you'll overcome it - look at what you've done so far. The answer will fall into place, I bet.
