I've had it in the past. A couple visits to the chiro helps me 100%. If you need more than 3, I'd get evaluated by a ortho doc. Best of luck!

It is an ongoing problem for me. I am in the midst of an episode of pain now. Took a Medrol dosepack last week. (steroids to calm the inflammation) It helped a little, but not as much as it had in the past. I also get very emotional when taking that stuff. I think I am going to have to give in and go to the ortho. My pcp said sometimes it gets worse with weight loss!???? maybe less padding in the vertebres so the nerve gets irritated. I am quite sure even with out the ortho and the MRI that I have an injured disk from a fall I had about 3 years ago. At that time I had severe pain and lost time from work, 2 rounds of steroids and muscle relaxers and time. My PCP recommended then going to an ortho and getting a steroid epidural for relief. I may do that this time. I have terrible fear of the injection but the pain is bad.

Sciatica is caused from the Pirformis and gluteal muscles (butt) that are in spasm and therefore pinch the sciatic nerve that runs through these muscles. The quickest and most direct solution is a clinical massage in this area. Drugs only mask the pain. A chiropractor can release it after many attempts, but massage is the most direct method of treatment. I am a massage therapist and treat several of these each week with tremendous quick results. Many of my clients have tried the ortho and Chiropractor with limited results.

I HAVE PAIN GOING DOWN BOTH LEGS AND AFTER GOING TO CHIROPRACTORS FOR YEARS WITH LITTLE RELIEF, I WENT TO ORTHO WHO SENT ME FOR EPIDURIALS IN BACK AND IT HELPED ME GREATLY... I'M NOT A NEEDLE PERSON AND WAS SCARED , BUT IT WASN'T TO BAD...MASSAGE THERAPY DID HELP SOME ALSO....

I have fibromyalgia and suffer from this. My neurologists gives botox injections in my butt. It hurts like crazy while he's finding the "trigger" spots but after about 2 days I feel no pain. It's been my saving grace.

Ditto what Melissa said (I'm also a Massage Therapist). Check for one in your area and let them know the pain you are experiencing. Good luck!

I have the same issue for about 15 years. I visit the chiropractor 2 or maybe 3 times and I am good to go for months. I put it off way to long, try it what have you got to lose other than the pain.

Wow, I know how you feel. I have permanent nerve damage and have constant pain. I tried the Chiropratcor, which did'nt help at all. He took x-rays..but an x-ray will not show if you have a ruptured disc. Finally I went to an Orthopaedic Surgeon and ended up having an MRI done, thats when they found the ruptured disc. Don't put off seeing an Ortho Dr..the longer you wait..the more damage that can be done. Susan

I had a ruptured disc in October of 2000. The pain was so bad from the pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve, that I couldn't walk. I had surgery because I felt that I did not want to live with this pain any longer, nor the loss of mobility. The surgery was a blessing!!! I was scared from horror stories of back surgery but it was done wonderfully. I had lumbar surgery. It was the best thing I could have done. No problems now!

I, too, have Fibromyalgia, but have had sciatica for many years due to the abuse I gave my back while working as a nurse with Hospice patients. You are in their homes and you just can't say, I'll have to call someone. You do the best you can and end up like me. It has been debiliating at times. You MUST see an ortho to be sure you don't need to have something repaired, but a massage therapist is the way to go. Just be sure and tell them your problem and they know how to do it. Good luck and hang in there...it will get better and then worse, but better again.
