Question:
Please read...need advice ASAP

Last night my DH was eating peanuts so i grabbed a few and ate them...turned out to be HOT peanuts and my mouth was on fire!! SO, i got some milk and drank it to put the fire out...i may have drank to fast but anyway...a few minutes later i had this pressure and cramping in my tummy. I laid down and its still there this morning. It feels like i did 1000 situps and hurts when i stretch..any ideas what it could be? my surgeon is 2 hours away...so what would you do? I havent been up on my fluids lately so im wondering if im really dehydrated or constipated also.I can keep water and food down ok so far. Thanks in advacne for any advice. lap rny 9-16-03 260-135-?    — cinamoni (posted on April 23, 2004)

Amy, I'm not a doctor but I would absolutely call your doctors office to ask this question... there are numerous things it could be and I wouldn't guess if I were you.... I'm sure it's simplistic but better safe than sorry.... : ) please update when you have your answer. keep up the good work, Rosanne lap rny 4-06-04 3 weeks post-op

I would not panic, but like the other person responded, please call your dr. just to be sure. I know that when I was about 4-6 mos out, I had a similar experience. I had eaten something too fast and then of course my stomach hurt a great deal. And the pain was still there for a couple days. Not sure if you had Open or Lap. I had open and it was actually the muscles surrounding my stomach that were hurting. Hope you are feeling better soon. Please post when you get an answer.

Congratulations <<sarcasm>> You are now lactose intolerant and that, my dear, is what happens when you dump on dairy. Dairy is just about the only thing I dump on and dairy-dumping (sounds like a form of cow-tipping) is just about the most painful dumping there is, from what I have learned - and confirmed by my doc. Straight milk and ice cream do this. Cheese and yogurts are okay because the sugars turn into proteins...I was never lactose intolerant before, so the first time this happened it scared me to death. But I agree, call your doctor just to put your mind at ease that it isn't something else. You surgeons office will be more than happy to address your concerns.

I think a few minutes is too soon for lactose intolerance. The lactose has to get to your intestines to be starting to digest and then building up the gas etc from the missing lactase enzyme. Dumping for me anyways usually takes longer than a few minutes for me too, at least half an hour. I don't know if you have had milk prior to this post op. If you have been drinking milk all along and this is the first occurance that would be a clue that it is not dumping or lactose intolerance. Do you think maybe you didn't chew well enough since the nuts were so hot? that always hurts me right away if I swallow something not well chewed (it is rare, but has happened to me in the past) then drinking on top of it might make you hurt too. Hope you do check it out with your doc tho.

If you can keep food and water down I wouldn't worry about it. It could be you just drank too fast and too much at one time and your pouch spasmed.I've had that happen to me and it felt like a cramping sensation and it was sore for a few days after. My surgeon explained it like this....our stomaches are muscular so if it spasms, it's gonna be sore just like any other muscle

maybe you are lactose intolerant. My doctors says nothing to drink 30 minutes before eating and do not drink while eating. It streches the new stomach out.

Because the peanuts were hot you may have not chewed them enough or you irrated your stomach. When ever i had these issues I went back to clear liquids for 3 days then purred for 3 days then soft for 3 days. It always seemed to work for me. If it persists you might try calling your DR. Good lux
