Question:
just curious, has anyone lost 100 lb's or more and not needed to have any reconstruct

I hear about so many people saying they need surgery afterward for loose skin. I was wondering if anyone has just lost the weight and not had to (or needed to) have it done>    — jennifer S. (posted on March 9, 2004)

Losing 101 pounds has reshaped my body through walking and light weights. (I tend to walk 4-6 days a week in nice weather and much less in cold weather and do arm/hand weights two to three times a week.) If I were rich and truly into a perfect body, I could stand some PS, but I'm okay with where I am. I have a small pooch in the panni area, but not much. In fact, my surgeon said he was pleased that I didn't need any plastics; I figure he sees it all and felt fine with his assessment which echoed my own. I have legs that jiggle a bit (especially above the knees), but I've always had that and will continue to walk to firm them up even more. I've gone from a 22/24 to a 4/6/8. It depends on so many factors and your personal level of satisfaction with yourself through the process that it's hard to say where you'll be, but it is indeed possible to forgo the plastics. I think I look like most 45 year old women who've had two kids! Good luck.

This would be a great question to post on the Plastic Surgery Message Board, and you might get more of a response. I have lost -112 lbs and I am seeing my pcp on Monday for a referral to the PS. I will be having a breast reduction/lift, my arms and hopefully neck lift. I have 55 lbs to reach my goal then I will have a TT and thigh lift. The size of my body frame under my breast has gone from a 54 1/2 to a 36, but my cup size is still a ddd/F and even though the apron is smaller, I still will need to have the hanging skin removed. The hanging skin on my arms is about 5 inches with another overhang of 2 inches.

At 100 pounds down I only needed my arms done -- but my arms had always been big and I had always hated them anyway, even for the five minutes I was thin after doing Optifast. The rest of me didn't need reconstruction until I ost another 35 pounds. It was amazing how different I looked after that! It was like I just emptied out my skin. Boobs, tummy, thighs, butt -- all went south on my. But after the first 100, it was only arms that I needed. Good luck! hugs, Ann RNY 9/10/99 260/124

I guess it's a matter of perception on the "need" or 'have to' part. I've lost 150+ lbs. I don't really NEED or have to have any PS. But, I'd like to have my legs done to get rid of the baggy thighs, and would like perkier breasts. However, I could live with it too. I have no medical need for redundant skin removal. Cosmetic is another story.

I'm 5'0" - went from 205 - about 110 now. 1 1/2 years out - I don't need any surgery. My boobs have stretch marks, but what do you expect? Other than that, this surgery is the best thing I've ever done - whether I needed plastic surgery afterwards or not! Good luck with everything!

When I lost approx. 200 lbs in 94/95 I do not remember any great amount of excess skin. I know that I never would have considered plastic surgery back then, so yes it is possible but you also need to have realistic expectations. <p>However, 9 years later and having regained the 200 lbs and then losing 228 lbs with WLS, I definitely needed PS and just had a lower body lift 2 weeks ago. I could have lived with the skin if I had to but it sure feels good to have the excess 19 lbs gone and not have to worry about moisture and smell etc in the summer. It really comes down to how each body shrinks and there is no way to predict that, only time will tell.

I lost 100lbs and I look like a sharpei. My arms, legs, stomach are all stretched and ugly. To add insult to injury, I'm only 25...wait, no I'm 26 now. It's my birthday today. :) But that comes from being obese all my life. However, I have a friend in my support group who is about my age, also obese all her life, started at about 100 lbs higher then me and lost twice as much and her skin bounced back beautifully. Not an inch of excess in sight. She doesn't excersise regularly (or at all I think) so I think it just comes down to genetics.
