I get frequent bladder infections that have nothing to do with wls. I have found that over the counter AZO works far better than any antibotic I was on. Turns your urine orange and washes the infection right out of there. It is to be taken every four hours but usually one dose is all I need. I try to catch it before it gets real bad.

AZO DOES NOT cure the infection... It is a analgesic, that is what turns your pee yelllow/orange... Believe me, I have had chronic UTI's since I was 13 yrs old... I am also an LPN.... If you have symptoms please go to your Dr. and get tested... It's better to be safe than to have the infection spread to your kidneys!

Funny you should ask: I was supposed to get my pap smear done about a month after my surgery, but my doc was unable to complete it because I started bleeding during the exam; we did find out that I had a bladder infection that I didn't even know about. I didn't have any of the symptoms that I usually get. My doctor put my on Macrobid and I was on that until I had to be hospitalized due to dehydration and my stoma needing to be dilated. They gave me about 5 bags of fluid. I didn't take any more of the Macrobid, and when I went back the next week to have a re-pap done, the infection was all gone.
If the antibiotic you're on is not working, call your doc ASAP or it could end up in your kidneys, and then you're in big trouble.

Good luck, I hope you're better soon!

Had no problem getting mine cleared up with anitbiotics, however I had an ear infection that took almost a month and 4 different meds to clear up. Miserable!

kimberly, I am also an R.N. and altho it does not Clear the infection, azo does when taken with a glass of water as it should be, help wash the infection out or so I was told by my pcp and yes it is an analgesic. The reason I got so many all these years was due to being a home health nurse and driving and sitting and holding my bladder for long periods of times. It has always worked for me and believe me, i do know what a bladder infection is.

Once you get a bladder infection you need a doctors help. I lived with two bladder cathetirs (one up the old ying yand and one in the abdominal area to the bladder) for nine months. I almost lost my bladder from all the blood and puss in there. Anywho, I'm the king of bladder infections and UTI's. Once the catiters were out and I felt a UTI coming on, (for me a BURNING sensation down there) I got tired of urologists and tried something that st happened to work for me. (I never heard of anyone else doing it, but I wanted to try something.. anything)! I took hydrogen peroxide and cuped it in my hand.... splashed it all around "down there". It will foam white, bubble and tickle, but it does NOT hurt. My Mom did'nt believe that it would'nt hurt. Well she was feeling a UTI coming on and decided to try it. She now swears by it. It does'nt hurt those private parts. It only kills some of those germs and keeps them from traveling up the urethra. As I said, if you got a bladder infection you need a doctor. But if you feel a UTI coming on, then try this. It's cheap and painless and has kept us away from the doctors.... so far anyway. For me it's been almost 10 years away from urologists! :) I'm one happy camper too.

Just a word of advice from my own experience, if you have a bladder infection or get recurring bladder infections or UTI's, DON'T USE COTTONELLE TOILET PAPER. It leaves fibers behind that can clog your urethra. A couple of other very important points to prevent bladder infections and UTI's.....DRINK LOTS OF WATER DURING ALL OF YOUR WAKING HOURS, always pee after sex and don't hold your pee too long-find a bathroom at the first urge. It's often a matter of keeping your urethra flushed from the inside out in a consistant manner. If you drink lots of water, well, then, you just have to pee alot and that is a good thing :)
