Question:
Anyone else have a problem with their tailbone hurting?

I'm one year out. Down from 262 to 162 and all my chairs and sofa now just about kill my tailbone. It gets so sore! I assume it is just because I don't have as much padding back there as before, but it still seems a bit odd to me. Anyone else have this problem or have any input?    — Sherry B. Hi, Gosh I'm complaining about that all the time. I wonder what it is. I weigh about 175 but I used to weigh 343. Maybe it is our lack of padding...but it's really strange that you should mention it because I definately have the same problem. I wish I had an answer though. Take Care.

Funny you posted this, I was just complaining about this same thing last week. I have drop 50 pounds so far (down to 226)and have noticed that is a sit for very long my tailbone really hurts. I too have attributed it to the loss of padding on my bottom, (however it sure does look like my butt is the same size it's always been, LOL). Don't worry, you are not alone. - Janine

OH MY GOSH... I just went to the doctor for that exact reason last week. She did tell me that it is more than likely due to my weight loss but she went ahead and sent me for X-Rays. I will get those results this week. It all started one night when hubby and I went to the movies, now it hurts if I sit for 20-30 min. I sit on a pillow sometimes it hurts so bad. Glad I'm not the only one. ~7 weeks & 5 days PO -42lbs.~

I am now called the "buttless wonder". My tailbone hurts even when I'm in the car. This was always my smallest area, "but" now I'm uncomfortable most of the time. As you can see you are not alone.

I have the same problem. I have always had a large butt, but now am finding it uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time. I'm glad I'm not alone. Kathy 2/10/03 215/141/130

Count me in on this one too! I had a huge butt, and its not small yet by far, but my tailbone hurts all the time. I have lost 178 lbs. and I guess some of that was butt. LOL I would rather it hurt and my butt get smaller, than keep the butt I had!!! Glad to know that I am not alone!!!

I've lost 87 lbs, and Yes it sure does. No matter where I sit my tailbone gets very sore. Just can't get comfortable no matter where or how I sit. If I stand the sagging skin from my large pannus makes my back hurt. Laying in bed makes my hips hurt. Oh thin is great!!! Just waiting for my body to get used to the new thin me.

Count me in, too. I didn't really have a butt before surgery, but there obviously was some cushion there that protected by butt bone because now if I sit for very long, I get booty aches too. I guess that in a way, it is good for me. It keeps me from sitting still for very long without getting up and moving around...can't ever hurt to burn a few extra calories. So no, you are not alone. I have heard this complaint many times from other post-ops.

Yes! I'm 2 years Postop and my tailbone hurts all the time, and it's not getting any better. I bought a special pillow called a "tush cush" that is like a wedge with the area where your tail bone hits on it cut out so that there is no pressure on it. It helps, but if I don't use it, I'm hurting. I find if I have to be somewhere without it, I alternate putting weigh on what's left of each butt cheek lol....Good luck! Denise 316/158

This started for me at 4 months. I bought a tush kush cushion also. It helps, but if I sit too long on it I still get sore. My husbands teases me that all my padding is gone. I can't complain about the minor side effects when I am down 127 lbs. in 10 months.

I DONT THINK IT IS THE LACK OF PADDING, CAUSE MY SISTER IS LIKE 120 AND HERS NEVE HURTS. I THINK IT IS THAT OUT PADDING HAS JUST DROPPED DOWN PAST THE TAIL BONE AREA,AND DOESNT PROTECT US ANYMORE. I THINK I NEED A BUTT LIFTAND PUT IT BACK WHERE IT BELONGS,JUST ANOTHER SIDE AFFECT I GUESS, LOL

Love this post...I have the same problem. I have lost 104 pounds in 6 months, had a small but to begin with and now its even smaller. I read somewhere that this other person had the same problem and it turned out to be the "excess" skin in the cheek region. When you sit down, the excess skin folds and you may be sitting on a skin fold that puts pressure on the tailbone.

There are a couple of reasons for the sore tailbone. One is obviously the loss of "padding." Another is the fact that our frames take time to shift and adjust to carrying a lesser weight. We have been structured for so long to carry a load; it takes time to readjust. A couple of sessions with a chiropractor can be helpful. I stopped having this problem at about 3 years out; two years after reaching goal. I got my butt back (your body continues to reshape itself long after you stop losing) and that definitely helped. This is a temporary problem, but you can get help with a chiropractic adjustment and/or the right kind of pillow! hugs, Ann rny 9/10/99 260/124

WOW I am so glad you asked this question because I thought it was just me.When I sit even for a short period of time...it feels like agony just to get up outta my chair. And it can be a soft cushy chair too...it seems to do it in every chair I sit in even in my car. And I know it cant be because I'm old because I'm only 20 (No offense to anyone over the age of 20..your not old your experienced = ) at times its like I have to sit for a couple minutes to get out of the chair and it feels like a thousand pound weight is in my bottom and I just cant get up lol...and it Hurts soooo bad.
