Question:
How much could you eat at 4 months post-op?

Just wonder about what quanity of food others ate at around this time post-op? I went to Hungry Hunter with another post-op and she was saying I ate way to much I shared a dinner with my 10 year old daughter what I ate was about half of a dinner salad and three prawns, I only took one bite of baked potatoe. Is this to much I didn't feel stuffed or uncomfortable    — kathy B. (posted on April 11, 2003)

1/2 a dinner salad, 3 prawns, and a bite of BP too much ? Nahhhh, thats great. I'm 4 1/2 months post op myself. When everyone else says they eat 2-3 oz of food, I EASILY eat about 6- I make good food choices (as I see you are too) and exercise. Your doing GREAT (yipeeeee) Best wishes Kim -87lbs

I measure quantity in protein grams, carb grams, and calories. At 4 months out, I was eating 900-1000 calories a day, with maybe 45 percent of that in protein grams, 40 percent or so in carbs, rest fats & sugars (fitday.com will break it down for you). I don't think a meal the size you ate is too much, considering that at four months out, we should be well on the road to getting more nutrition in than the starvation/fresh post-op -sized meals we tend to eat up to that point!

I just reached 5 months post-op so 4 months is pretty fresh in my mind. I'm a weird eater. Some days I WAS SO hungry and other times I couldn't find my appetite with the FBI. I went to Olive Garden a few times since surgery the last time being about 3 weeks ago and I'll tell you what I ate. I ate about 1/2 of a saucer size plate of garden salad, 1/4 of a breadstick, 1/3 of Zuppa Tuscana bowl of soup and a stuffed mushroom. That was in the span of 90 minutes. I felt stuffed and ready to explode. That is A LOT of food for me. I think that is the most I've eaten post-op and if I remember correctly I didn't eat much else that day. I have no idea what prawns are so I'm not sure what is considered a lot. But I think post-op should just stop criticizing other post-ops by saying so and so ate way too much and blah blah blah. I think people work too hard at dragging people down rather than bringing them up. The point is that YOU know what is right for YOU. All of us are not the same and while advice is helpful what works for soem does not work for all. Take what this person said for what it was - her opinion and nothing more. Okay? Okay! Don't let anyone rain on your parade! :o)

I am 3 months post op and could probably eaten the same thing had I done it slowly. Salad for me just does not take up a lot of room in my pouch. It is mostly water and I chew it really well. 3 shrimps, is that even 2 ounces? probably just barely. I think that was a very reasonable meal. I can eat 2.5 ounces of filet mignon and I always feel like it is huge but I could have eaten ten times that before. As long as your loss satisfies you the you are doing great!!!

What you ate was fine. If you could eat the whole dinner, that's something else. The other woman may have just been able to eat less. At almost a year post-op I can still eat pretty small quantities, but that's just my stomach. Everyone is different. You're doing fine. Goodluck to you.
