Question:
Why am I feeling so hungry

I am 5 months post-op and have lost 77lbs which is great but i have started to gain some weight back. I think 5 lbs now in the last week. I always plateau 2 weeks out of every month but I never gained weight. I also am worried its due to my pouch. I always feel hungry again which brings back memories of pre-surgery. Last night at dinner I ate a whole pork chop, 3oz green beans and 4 oz rice. I was not full. I have no problem eating a 9-10 oz lean cuisine I don't feel stuffed. I get in about 60oz fluid aday, I power walk every day for 30min and drink and eat aprox 70 grams of protein. I have never dumpped and can eat anything. I don't eat sweets but I feel like I am constantly eating. Should I get an upper GI????    — Jenny W. (posted on March 27, 2003)

Ahhhh... welcome to the end of the honeymoon period! This is normal. It's time to work with your tool. Follow the pouch rules, and remember to stay away from simple carbs (white flour, white rice, sugar) which make you hungrier. I've recently gotten back on the protein bandwagon, and have found I can eat quite a large volume of protein only foods (relatively speaking) and still lose weight, even at 20 months post-op.

Jenny, unfortunately the hunger does come back, and it did full force! (ofcourse watching the food network doesn't help- lol) We can eat more, and are supposed to be able to get to 6-8oz of food a meal and stay there. It honestly wouldn't hurt to call your surgeon and ask him these questions, b/c you honestly just never know. people who have strictures or SLD (were you transected?) are able to eat a lot more than normal. I personally am 10 months and can only eat 4oz in a sitting, but I know I seem to have a smaller pouch than others. It's just hard to say. As for the weight gain, if you keep gaining, then I think you might have a problem, otherwise it could just be fluctuations or water weight, etc. I always gain 2 lbs, then lose it a few days later along with more weight. Goodluck to you!
