Question:
Has anyone experienced hot flashes/flushes since having WLS?

Yes - I did five days ago (7 weeks post op RNY). It completely flipped me out. I had never had a hot flash in my life, but I knew this is what it was because I had seen enough people have one to recognize it. My body got so hot and my face got bright red. It felt as if my head would burst. I have been told that rapid weight loss causes a lot of hormonal activity. My libido agrees. I just chalked the flash up to the hormones nd hope that I don't get another until I reach menopause!

Yes!! I thought I was the only one. After a couple months post op it started happening every afternoon. People even walked by my desk at work and asked if I were sunburned! I thought it may be dehydration, but it still happened even after I up\'d my water intake. It lasted for a couple of months and seems to be getting better. I agree, I think it has a lot to do with my hormones getting back into whack.

Are you taking any new medications? It is possible that could be part of your flashes.

I am 63 years old, had an open RNY Sept 24,2002, I'm down 74#. In January I started getting hot flashes and haven't had them for about 5 or 6 years. Someone had told me that fat stores hormones and when you lose weight it releases them. I wonder if that means my years are going backwards. My PCP told me I look 10 years younger. I wonder if it's from the newly released hormones, lol.

I'm 2+ years post op. I get hot flashes every time I eat anything bigger than a hershey's kiss that contains surgar. It's one of the symptoms of "dumping syndrom" that we are warned about.
