Question:
Where do you buy vitamins?

My case mgr wants me to buy Bariatric Advantage vitamins. They are expensive, has anyone purchase other vitamins at Wal Mart or Walgreens?    — pcannedy (posted on August 1, 2010)

I did Bariatric advantage till I was 10 months post op. Now I do OTC vitamins because its expensive buying bariatric advantage. If somewhere down the road I find that the ones im taking arent good enough ill go back to Bariatric advantage.

I use Celebrate Vitamins. I like the taste better. My PCP had me on Centrum vitamins for a while, they're ok but I like the Celebrate better. Just stay away from the flintstones & others like that. I know LOTS of folks take them, but my PCP doesn't think they're adequate for an adult. Talk to your case mgr about your $$ concerns and maybe they will agree to a different brand.

If you have GNC stores in your area, they make great vitamins. WalMart and Walgreens also carry several brands that are perfectly acceptable.

I have been using vitamins from Wal Mart since my surgery and have been very pleased with them! Good Luck!

I get most of my vitamins at CVS. They often have a buy one get one free sale. Their brand of Centrum chewables, carbonyl iron, magnesium, vitamin C chewables, melatonin(for sleep), calcium citrate. I do buy my vitamin D and A from vitalady.com, and B12 methylcobalamine from Wonderlabs.com-all reasonably priced.

My doctor wanted for me to do the same. They get a commission for it. I have been getting all of mine from the Puritans Pride website. It saves so much money. You just need to make sure that whatever you change to has the same or higher nutritional values. Like extra calcium, zinc, b12, vitamin d. I have found better vitamins at 1/4 of the price.

I had the sleeve so I don't have malabsorption issues so my needs may be different than yours but I take a liquid multi-vitamin and mineral supplement daily. You might want to compare the labels. It's called 1st Step for Energy by High Performance Fitness and I buy it online from Tiger Fitness. My grocery store also carries it but they are twice as expensive. Here's the info: 16 Fl. Oz. If you can not afford the vitamin that are recommended to you such as the Bariatric Advantage one, they have a program through the Obesity Action Coalition that will allow you to receive them for FREE! Check out this website then print out the form for your surgeon to fill out and sign. Then fax it in yourself. http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/page/oac

I buy Centrum A-Zinc. My doctor says it has all we need. But you need it (any) vitamin 2 times a day. One in the morning and one in the evening. I get them at Costco (Kirkland Brand) but the same vitamin percentage in both Centrum and Kirkland and much cheaper. Walmart has Centrum but not as many as if it were Costco and the price is high for the amount you get. I like the vitamin, I haven't had any vitamin deficiency and I am 4.5 years post op with RNY. The bariatric advantage vitamin is fine and dandy but is pricey and you get the same results with Centrum. Give those a try. Good for you and your budget.

I didn't realize we're supposed to take 2 vitamins a day. Is everyone doing that? At any rate, five years out my lab readings have been good.I've been taking: Centrum Vitamins, Nature's Bounty or NatureMade B-12, Citracal Calcium Citrate w/Vitamin D, Feosol Carbonyl Iron, Omega-3, Pepcid AC Complete. I just bought some Target brand Kirkland Sugar-Free Calcum Chews to try. I just get all of mine at Walmart, Target or Costco.
