I had lap RNY on 1/14/10 and I am still taking what I was taking before the surgery and have no changes in mood. I take Lexapro 20mg, Wellbutrin XL 450mg and Lamictal 100mg. Some have told me that we can not absorb the XL (extended release) as well as before, but my Doctor said you are still doing well on this so let's not make any changes.

I am taking Cymbalta 30 mg 2 times a day. This is what I was taking prior to surgery. This is an extended release, but it is working just find. AND, the real bonus is that I can swallow the caplets! I was taking this prior to my RNY on 12/23/09. I could tell the difference when I wasn't allowed to take it prior to surgery and just after surgery. I hope this helps! Take care, Kristin

I was on Effexor XL before my surgery and never stopped taking it. The doc just told me to empty the capsule into my hand and take the little beads with some yogurt. It has worked fine for me.

The best one I have EVER taken is Abilify. I would suggest she consult a psychiatrist and let him/her manage her depression and meds. It can frequently take a lot of trial and error to find the best one for the patient. Good luck to your friend. Most of the time it takes counseling as well to defeat this terrible disease.
