Question:
Sept 2009 - BK amputee having surgery and would like to discuss with post-op amputees

I have several concerns about being an amputee and having surgery. I would love to have discussions with post-op amps about their experiences and difficulties/successes. What special conditions did you have to deal with, particularly relating to exercise, etc. Was there any special support for amps? The discussion could cover much territory including prosthetics and costs.    — sayyadena (posted on September 15, 2009)

Hello! I'm not an amputee, however, I used to work with many different physical therapists and exercise programs for people with disabilities, birth defects, and injuries of all kinds. I think the important thing first is, do you already have an exercise plan in place that you do now? And if you have a physical therapist, I would recommend asking them as well as your surgeon so your entire team can come up with a plan with you that you are comfortable with so your surgery can be as successful as possible.
