Question:
medicare and the svg

Hi, I finally got a call from the doctors office after leaving a message with the nut about seen another doctor. I have appt to talk with the dr about a revision. I was looking into the sleve but office person told me that medicare do not covers the svg. I will have to do rny, and i am kind of scared. if there is anyone who have medicare and it paid for the svg and anyone that went from the band to rny or something else.    — JANIECEMOM (posted on June 3, 2009)

I'm thinking you mean VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) ...You got all the right letters! There is a revision forum where you will find more answers to your questions...Good luck with whatever you do! http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/

Correct- Medicare will NOT pay for the VSG. I was going to have a staged surgery, for the DS, but had to go "all or nothing". Perhaps the RNY is the right surgery for you, but I wouldn't have it for all the money in the world. It's a lifetime of restriction, and has a very high percentage of regain. IMO, the DS is the platinum standard of WLS.
