Question:
WHEN WILL IT STOP?

I had RNY on 4/16/08 and I have lost a total of 220 pounds. I am 5'10 and weight 157 pounds..I am still losing weight..People are now telling me that I am looking too thin. I still have a hard time eating...Food just sucks and I force myself everyday to eat. Does anyone have this issue? I am not wanting to lose any more weight but I just keep on losing..The food I do put in my mouth is very healthy, just not alot of it...I would appreciate anyone out there that is going through this.    — okbuffy (posted on August 26, 2009)

First off, congrats on the weight loss. Secondly, I would talk to your surgeon. Call him/her and see if you can get in for an appointment and let them know how you feel. Good luck

You will stop losing weight when you are consuming the right amount of calories. If you are to be eating 1000-1200 you would need to eat that many in order to stop losing. The least amount of calories will keep you losing weight. You could eat your 3 meals and snack in between meals to get the calories in. I know it is hard when you don't want to eat, but if you want to stop losing you will need to eat more. People that are telling you that you are too thin, are used to seeing you heavy. So of course they are going to tell you that. Consume protein first. People will say don't snack in between meals, but my thinking is how am I going to get 1200 calories out of 3 meals when my meals are small. So I snack all day long. Not a lot, just enough to fill me up. It might take me all day to eat one snack, but I am still getting the calories. If you are comfortable at 157 lbs then bump up your calories to slow down the weight loss. Hope this helps.

I understand completely. Food does suck and it seems I am eating constantly to keep my weight steady. I never thought you would hear those words coming out of me but there they are. Finally after about a year and a half I do have an interest in food so that part gets better with time. But I do have to eat a lot of small meals/snacks to get in enough calories to keep my weight and my strength up. You have to find the right amount for you. I weigh every morning to determine whether to increase or decrease my intake for that day. I'm 5'9 and weigh around 145. Because we are tall we look thinner than most at least that's what I keep telling myself. I've been able to stay in the 140's for about 2 months now and my face is filling back out a little so I don't look as sickly as I used to. It is a daily struggle to maintain and not lose. My biggest fear is that it will turn on me and the weight will start going up and I won't be able to stop it. But I will fight that battle when it comes.

Hi! first off..congrats on the loss. secondly, I was having a similiar problem. I talked to my nut who told me to eat 4 meals and 1 snack a day. I don't do protein drinks, but I do consume a protein bar daily. I buy different ones. I get 1300 cals a day when I am not working out and 1500 a day when I am. I have been maintaining my 120 weight loss for about 4 months now. I now weight 118. Best of luck to you and try to eat healthily and I know its hard to eat, but you must maintain a healthy weight. Hugs n God Bless, Kim
